Bryan M. Candelario

Senior Patent Attorney

Bryan M. Candelario is a senior patent attorney focusing on patent portfolio development and management, including preparation and prosecution of patent applications in the U.S. and internationally. He has deep experience in working with cutting-edge technology companies to protect their most valuable innovations.

Bryan works closely with his clients to create patent portfolios that provide value and support their strategic business goals. He has been trusted to develop and manage patents for projects that have high strategic value and visibility, often in very competitive technology areas. Given this, Bryan focuses on developing high-quality patents that are designed to stand up to scrutiny, both during prosecution in jurisdictions around the world and beyond prosecution throughout the life of the patent.

Over the course of his career, Bryan has worked in the San Francisco Bay Area and Texas for a variety of clients, both large and small, in a wide range of technology areas, including user interfaces, computer software and hardware, cloud-based technologies and services, media delivery (e.g., adaptive bitrate streaming), extended reality (XR) technologies (e.g., augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR) and mixed reality (MR) technologies), applied machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI), Wi-Fi, 3GPP cellular technology (e.g., LTE, NR, IoT, beamforming, and dual connectivity), network storage, mechanical devices, and medical treatment devices.

Bryan practiced for multiple years at an Am Law 100 law firm. Additionally, he has significant experience serving as outside patent counsel for a Fortune 50 company.

Bryan also brings an in-house counsel perspective to his practice. He was senior patent counsel at Ericsson, where he spent several years managing patent development on a global scale. Bryan worked directly with inventors all over the world to assess technological developments and seek patent protection.

In addition, Bryan has experience in performing diligence and patent analysis for a variety of purposes, including patent portfolio acquisition, M&A activity, standards contributions, and strategic pre-litigation and defensive activity.

Before his legal career, Bryan spent several years working as a design engineer at a leading technology company, where he designed and tested high-temperature and high-reliability electronics.

Patent Portfolio Development for a Quantum Computing Company

Worked with a quantum computing company from its earliest days to build a patent portfolio that was the basis for over $100 million in successful investment from multiple high profile venture capital firms. The team’s extensive background in quantum computing helped the company obtain more than 100 patents in the U.S. and in foreign markets, and the portfolio ultimately proved to be a primary asset that facilitated the company’s ability to raise additional capital through an IPO. Notably, several of these patents survived challenges filed by competitors in the U.S. and Europe.
